A group of Appalachian students was one of several winners in this year's EPA P3: People, Prosperity and the Planet Student Design Competition for Sustainability. The project was called "The Affordable Bioshelters Project: Testing Technologies for Affordable Bioshelters," in which Appalachian students "will design and build affordable greenhouses that are powered renewably to conserve energy and, therefore, reduce the demand for fossil fuels, and allow more food to be grown locally at lower economic and ecological cost."
