Title: Minimizing the environmental impact of construction materials
in playground design
Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge students will provide recommendations to make playgrounds safer and more economical by using bagasse, a sugar cane processing by-product, as a surfacing material. The team will also study the environmental effects of old, pressure-treated wood containing chromated copper arsenic (a known carcinogen) on surrounding playground soils.
